When we are distressed, unsure of what we want, or feeling stuck in repetitive patterns, what can we do?
Psychotherapy is one way we can find some relief and gain some traction. Through talking and listening (and listening to ourselves talk), psychotherapy helps us to get in touch with the stories we tell ourselves about who we are. Are these stories still accurate and do we like what they do for us, or are there different stories we would rather tell? Who are we beyond the stories altogether?
I've been in practice since 2001 and am available to help you deal with difficulties and enrich the quality of relationship to your self and others. My approach is experiential and integrative, and is grounded in both the latest research and my own clinical experience. In addition to my professional training, I bring my personal style. I am by nature, curious, and enjoy working with people from very diverse backgrounds and cultures. While comfortable dealing with hardship, I also am a believer in the benefits of humor and light-heartedness.
I am also fluent in Spanish, and am proficient in conducting therapy in Spanish.

Mindfulness-oriented Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy as I practice it is influenced by both western traditions of psychotherapy and mindfulness meditation.
Mindfulness, simply put, is the practice of bringing ourselves back to the immediacy and the mystery of our present moment experience. When mindfulness is brought to psychotherapy, the goal is not necessarily to "fix" or get rid of feelings or states of mind, but to learn to be more present and less reactive to them so that we can better understand them and be less controlled by them. An assumption I make is that this "basic mindfulness" or "basic sanity" is always available to us regardless of our particular story or state of mind.
From this perspective, therapy is a process of becoming more intimate with and more trusting of the idiosyncracies of our own basic wisdom, as well as the various ways and reasons that we avoid its expression.
